Close is good, but close isn't enough. Here's what I'd look for if I was the one calling around:
- They look before they quote. A shop that gives you a big number over the phone without seeing the car is guessing.
- Written estimate before any work. You should know what's getting done, why, and what it costs before anybody picks up a wrench. That's how we do every job.
- They explain it in plain words. If you walk out confused, that's on the shop, not you.
- They work on your kind of car. We do foreign and domestic, all makes and models.
- Real reviews from real people. Read what folks say on Google, Yelp, and BBB, not just the shop's own website.

Quick tips before you call any shop
- Write down when the problem happens: cold start, on the freeway, when braking, when the A/C is on.
- Take a picture of any warning light on the dash.
- If the car is overheating, the brake pedal feels soft, or the check engine light is flashing, don't keep driving it. Call first.
